This time on A Song of Fan and Fiction, in A Suitable Bride Part B: Chapter 2, Sansa is enjoying Tywin’s courtship; the letters they exchange are stimulating and insightful, and the gifts that he gives her are beautiful and quite expensive. Tywin has even decided to play her games about frivolous details about himself. However, word of their pending engagement leaks and Tywin, and Ned, are forced to mop up the mess. To add to everything, Joffrey’s Name Day is looming. Tywin wants to finalize their betrothal before then and escort Sansa to the Name Day Ball as announcement. Will Sansa say Yes, to any of it?
And in Chapter 3, Sansa decides that the narrow options Tywin has dictated are unacceptable and is prepared to move on. While the Stark household packs, Tywin reevaluates where he must and returns all but hat in hand to sweeten the pot for Sansa and her father. For Ned, not having to pay for a wedding with the appropriate decorum and ceremony certainly is enticing indeed. For Sansa, Tywin’s revelations about Joffrey’s punishment for his disreputable behavior and the rumors he spread about herself are enough.
While this episode is still benign in content, somewhere in the realm of PG to PG13 and the features canon-typical misogyny and sexism notwithstanding, this series is very explicit, so please, be mindful of this and the tags as we proceed.
Preiously on A Suitable Bride, Part A: Chapter 1, seventeen year old Sansa Stark has recently arrived in the Capitol, King’s Landing, with her father Ned Stark for her chance to be chosen by the Crown Prince Joffrey as his future wife and queen. Quickly though, she realizes the culture and climate of the South is drastically different than the North and the Prince is not exactly how Sansa imagined him to be. At the same time, Tywin Lannister never expected to be drawn to someone so young, on his passive quest for a second wife. Most shockingly for all parties involved, the Warden of the North has agreed to let the Warden of the West court his eldest daughter! And so the courtship begins. But is it possible for Tywin to recover what ground he’s lost, when minor missteps cool Sansa’s excitement and openness to this marraige proposition?
